Description

This summak remnant rug showcases the intricate artistry and rich history of Afghan craftsmanship. Its geometric patterns and vibrant colors create a striking visual impact, while the durable texture adds warmth and character to any space. Perfect for modern decor trends, this versatile piece can complement both traditional and contemporary interiors. With dimensions of 2'6" x 11'5", it offers a unique touch to your home or workspace.

The construction of Sumaks is different from that of the hand knotted rugs. The techniques used to make these rugs produce a primarily flat weave rug that is decorated with fine needlepoint designs. Because they are essentially embroidered, Sumak rugs are generally only one sided, unlike flatwoven Kelim rugs. Sumak has been practiced extensively across the world, from Central Asia to Iran. Today Sumak rugs are primarily woven in the large weaving districts in India.

Sumak:
Sumak rugs are named for the village of Shamakhi in the Caucasus, where the technique was widely practiced, but it was not invented there. Sumak has been practiced extensively across the world, from Central Asia to Iran. Today Sumak rugs are primarily woven in the large weaving districts in India. The construction of Sumaks is different from that of the hand knotted rugs. The techniques used to make these rugs can produce a primarily flat weave rug that can be thick and reversible, or single sided with fine elements that can contain silk.

Our collection includes new and vintage/antique handmade rugs, each with its own unique characteristics and color variations, enhancing their individuality and charm. We do our best to accurately depict colors and areas of variation/repair/wear in our photos. We invite you to embrace the inherent beauty of these variations, as they contribute to the authenticity and allure of our handcrafted rugs. Expert repairs and restoration available as needed.
