This handwoven Persian Sumak rug boasts a storied craftsmanship, reflecting a tradition of weaving that dates back centuries. The flat-weave design showcases a rich pattern with intricate geometries in a harmonious blend of deep reds, earthy browns, and vibrant accents, providing a touch of vibrant cultural history to contemporary spaces. Artfully crafted, it seamlessly merges with current decor trends, bringing an artisanal, worldly charm to any room. This unique piece measures 2'7" x 12'2", offering a tasteful cultural statement in a slender, elongated form.
Sumak rugs are named for the village of Shamakhi in the Caucasus, where the technique was widely practiced, but it was not invented there. Sumak has been practiced extensively across the world, from Central Asia to Iran. Today Sumak rugs are primarily woven in the large weaving districts in India. The construction of Sumaks is different from that of the hand knotted rugs. The techniques used to make these rugs can produce a primarily flat weave rug that can be thick and reversible, or single sided with fine elements that can contain silk.
Our collection includes new and vintage/antique handmade rugs, each with its own unique characteristics and color variations, enhancing their individuality and charm. We do our best to accurately depict colors and areas of variation/repair/wear in our photos. We invite you to embrace the inherent beauty of these variations, as they contribute to the authenticity and allure of our handcrafted rugs. Expert repairs and restoration available as needed.
